Patang is Pangasinanse for frog, but this particular species is Brown & Alcala’s Sierra Madre Frog or Sanguirana tipanan!

There are more than 100 species of amphibians in the Philippines, with at least 80% of them found only in the Philippines, aka they’re endemic (AM Fuiten, et al., 2011).

The species name tipanan means covenant or partnership, and is reference to the 45-year collaboration between Angel Alcala and Walter Brown, who together co-authored more than 70 publications including those about Philippine amphibians and reptiles.
