Have you ever seen a kingfisher? They’re beautiful birds that live all over the world. One of the colorful ones found only in the Philippines is the Indigo-banded kingfisher.
Kingfishers are not only good fishers, but they also feed on a variety of prey such as lizards, insects, and other creatures available around their home or near streams. Salaksakan is Hiligaynon for kingfisher.
The Southern Indigo-banded Kingfisher can be found in Negros and Panay, and differs from the Northern Indigo-banded Kingfisher in Luzon which has a red lower bill (eBird). You can also see which is male or female, thanks to the blue band across the upper chest of the male.
