Say hello to Pancit-pancitan!
Pancit-pancitan or Sinaw-sinaw (Bisaya) (Peperomia pellucida) is one of 10 medicinal plants recommended by the Department of Health. It has long been used to treat joint pain, and even lowers uric acid levels (HIA Boy 2018) which helps minimize or prevent gout.
Various studies on the plant have been made around the world, as it can be found in tropical areas such as the Philippines, Hawaii, and South America (Kartika 2016).
It has been used to treat eye inflammation in South America, cholesterol in Brazil, and uric acid and arthritis in Guyana and the Philippines! (Bibanco 2016)
If you think its scientific name Peperomia pellucida sounds familiar, it’s because it is in the same family as the plant from which black pepper is derived: Piperaceae, the pepper family!
