Talakitok or trevally and jacks were species that also increased after an MPA was established in Apo Island in Negros in 1983. 

Talakitok and Labahita (surgeonfish) make up to 75% of the fishery yield from Apo Island, and their populations tripled over the decades after the MPA was started. 

Organizations that help establish and maintain MPAs include the DENR BMB Coastal and Marine Division, Haribon Foundation, Rare Philippines, Oceana Philippines,WWF-Philippines,UNDP Philippines, and more.
