Philippine Duck

Philippine duck or Papan

Meet Papan! This is our own Philippine Duck, which can only be found in our country. Its scientific name is Anas luzonica. They can be identified by their blue-gray bills and a strip of iridescence above their wings, most evident while they fly.

They are beautiful upclose, but they can be hard to observe because they are extremely shy… they fly away easily as people approach them.

Thousands of them are counted every year during the Asian Waterbird Census, but they are listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Papan are also migratory birds, which means they migrate or move seasonally from one location to another when their habitat or local ecosystem changes every year. See more migratory bird illustrations here!
